Dr. Velasquez evaluates cataracts on a daily basis. Performing thousands of surgeries in his career he has a special interest in combining cataract surgery with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. He also performs astigmatism correcting intraocular lenses as well as multifocal intraocular lenses. He does his very best to set realistic expectations for patients prior to surgery

Pterygiums
Pterygia are a common occurrence in patients exposed to many years of continuous sunlight without UV eye protection. If visually bothersome or irritating, Dr. Velasquez can surgically remove. He offers conjunctival autograft transplantation and amniotic membrane transplantation which are standard of care after pterygium removal.

Macular Degeneration
Macular Degeneration is a common retinal condition in patients over age 65. It is important to get evaluated if there is a family history. The majority of patients with Macular Degeneration do not lose substantial vision in their lives, however, it is important to monitor for any changes that may signal progression. Dr. Velasquez can monitor for any changes in macular degeneration.

Dr. Velasquez evaluates and treats dry eye, a common condition for many in South Texas. Dry Eye is usually not a simple fix. Depending on the cause of dry eye Dr. Velasquez can offer a variety of treatment options including drops and minor procedures.

Chalazion/Stye
Chalazions and styes are common irritating eyelid conditions that Dr. Velasquez evaluates routinely. Dr. Velasquez is conservative in his approach with Chalazion and Styes but offers surgical in office removal if conservative treatment fails.
