RX® Sight Light Adjustable Lens™
What is the Light Adjustable Lens?
The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) by RxSight is made of a special photosensitive material that can be adjusted using ultraviolet (UV) light. After your eye has healed from cataract surgery, a non-invasive Light Delivery Device (LDD) is used to precisely apply UV light to the lens, reshaping it according to your specific vision targets. This innovative technology enables patients to collaborate in fine-tuning the lens for the best possible vision outcome.
What Sets the Light Adjustable Lens Apart?
Traditional lenses used in cataract surgery are often “fixed,” meaning the vision they provide is determined before the surgery and cannot be changed afterwards. This can leave patients with less than optimal vision, still relying on eyeglasses or contact lenses to see clearly. The Light Adjustable Lens is a game changer, as it offers the unique ability to modify and optimize your vision after the surgery, ensuring a truly personalized visual experience.
What to Expect with the Light Adjustable Lens Procedure
During laser cataract surgery, the clouded natural lens is removed and replaced with the Light Adjustable Lens. Following a 2-3 week healing period, a routine exam is conducted to evaluate your vision. Based on the results, Dr. Valesquez will work with you to further optimize your vision using the RxSight™ Light Delivery Device (LDD).
The Light Delivery Device gently emits UV light onto your Light Adjustable Lens, allowing for adjustments to achieve the desired vision. This system provides you and Dr. Valesquez the flexibility to make changes and fine-tune your vision based on your specific needs.
Typically, between 3 and 5 light treatments are needed, each lasting around 90 seconds. The total number of treatments depends on reaching the ideal visual outcome that both you and Dr. Velasquez have chosen. Once your final optimal vision is achieved, two more light treatments are performed to permanently lock the lens power, preventing any further changes.
